Easter chick with a green background from https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtsofan/5557186955Hello and welcome to the Perthshire Hour show notes for the episode which aired on Wednesday the 5th of April. You’ll find a link to all PerthshireHour episodes on lots of different podcast providers here.

We’ve returned to the more traditional format this week with a selection of Perthshire events for the upcoming Easter weekend.

Episodes like these are typically quicker and easier than themed episodes. However, I really enjoy the themed episodes so if you have a suggestion for a future theme please let me know, either in the comments for this post, in an email, or over on social media (this is me on Twitter or you can message the Crieff Business Page on Facebook or Instagram)

It’s been a while since we last had a regular Perthshire Hour podcast episode on a Wednesday. As you’ll have heard in last week’s episode, I had a bit of a learning curve to deal with last week as I had to quickly learn a new bit of sound editing for the poetry special. If you haven’t already listened to the Perthshire Hour poetry special you can click this link to pop along and, and have a listen

Anyway, we’re back on track now and this week we have Easter weekend coming up. Quick disclaimer: If you have an event on, and I didn’t read it out in the podcast, I’m really sorry. I’m not trying to exclude anyone I’m literally going by what I could find that references Perthshire and Easter.

If in future you would like be sure that your event/ promotion/ other news is featured on the podcast there are a couple of ways to do that:

#PerthshireHour on Twitter

If there’s anything to do with your business or anything you’re doing creatively please share it on Twitter including the hashtag #PerthshireHour in the text of your tweet.

#PerthshireHour on WhatsApp

Alternatively, we have a WhatsApp group that you can join (and share posts there). If you’d like to be part of the WhatsApp group, send me a message and I’ll add you in.

Anyway, back to what’s on in Perthshire this Easter Weekend.

John’s Scone Mad

The first post I came across that referenced Easter Weekend was from ‘John’s Scone Mad’ in Bridge of Earn. They’ve got an Easter weekend selection available for order this weekend.

Obviously, being ‘John’s Scone Mad’, their selection is predominantly scone-based. However, their scones come in many flavours. In sweet flavours, they’ve got plain with a hint of vanilla, fruit and spice, Tunnocks caramel wafer scones and more… In savoury they’ve also got super cheesy, bacon and maple syrup, chorizo (with tomato and peppers), curry (with potatoes, chickpeas, and mango chutney), and more.

They’re available for five pounds each or three for twelve pounds. The scones look like big old beasts so I imagine there’s some good eating there. Be sure to get your order in soon to avoid disappointment. The original post (with a longer list of scones available can be found here).

Nature Connects Perthshire

Next up we have Nature Connects Perthshire. In their post, they’re celebrating day two of their Easter Wildcraft Adventures at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park. At the time of writing, I can’t confirm whether they have spaces still but if you click this link you’ll be able to contact them directly to ask.

I should also post a link to Auchingarrich Wildlife Park (the venue for the Wildcraft Adventures). Auchingarrich is always a great day out, especially over the Easter holidays. It’s out near Comrie and it’s a perfect family day out.

Easter at St. Johnstone Stadium/ McDiarmid Park

This was originally posted via Perthshire Local (don’t want to steal credit for getting the word out).

St. Johnstone have an Easter family fun day sponsored by Aviva and Scottloo, Martin Plant hire, and Yorkes of Dundee.

It’s on Sunday the 9th of April from 11:00 AM till 3:00 PM.

For children over three, it’s 10 pounds for a ticket.

Children under three are free and adults go free too.

They’ve got CeeCee entertainments, a petting zoo, face painters, hair braiding, and an Easter egg hunt. There will also be a toy stall, an ice cream van, food and drinks, and football activities (as you may expect).

For more information (or to ask for more details) pop over to this post from Events at McDiarmid Park.

Royal Hotel in Comrie

Next up we’ve got an event at the Royal Hotel in Comrie.Another one happening on Easter Sunday itself (Sunday, the 9th of April).

They’re running an Easter egg hunt and they’ve also got a ‘special golden egg’, the finder of which will be the ‘lucky winner’. I couldn’t find details on what the ‘lucky winner’ wins but that’s sometimes part of the fun.

They also have an Easter Sunday menu with ribs, haddock, or roasted asparagus spears. Definitely a menu leaning towards spring and it all sounds delicious.

You should definitely book in advance and you can book online. Simply follow this link for the original post, or this link for contact details for the Royal Hotel.

Taste Perthshire

Next up we have more food, this time from Taste Perthshire. They’re up North of Perth, out near Bankfoot. In their Food Larder and deli they offer food from in and around Perthshire showing the amazing selection of food from our wee part of Scotland.

They also have a restaurant as well and on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of April they have an Easter menu. They’ve got two courses for £21.95 and three courses for £25.95 and I’m guessing you should book a table. Click here for Taste Perthshire’s online table booking service.

St. John’s Shopping Center Perth

Next up we have St. John’s Shopping Center in Perth. They’re having an Easter event as well. So that’ll be on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th. So you’ve got your mall egg hunt where you try to find eight colourful Easter eggs throughout the shopping centre and receive a ‘tasty Easter treat’ as a reward.

They’ve also got Easter crafts on, as well as a face painting station, and of course, the Easter Bunny will be making a wee visit there as well. So they’ve got an Easter garden set up and you can get a photograph with a giant Easter bunny between 11 and 3 on Saturday, and from 12 till 3 on Sunday.

Again, I got this information from the Perthshire Local page on Facebook, well worth a follow if you want to stay up to date with Perthshire’s going ons.

Pickled Peacock at Cairn O’Mohr

Next, we have the ‘Easter Weekender’, which is a family event hosted at the Pickled Peacock at the Cairn O’Mohr winery who craft (tasty) real Fruit Wines out in Errol. I had a little trouble tracking down their address so to make things easy for you, here it is for your SatNav/Google Maps: Cairn O’Mohr Winery, Errol, Perth PH2 7SP.

This Easter weekend the Pickled Peacock have a barbecue, salad bar, live music, kids inflatables, face painting cocktails, an egg hunt, and a cider hut. Now I’ve misread that as ‘cider hunt’ originally which sounded like particularly good fun, however, I’m sure the cider hut will be great too.

The Easter Weekender will be on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of April from 12:30PM until 6:00 PM each day. They’re actually open from 10:00AM for normal service, so you can pop along early, but the event won’t start until 12:30PM. Click on this link to see the original event post, or you can click on this link to contact the Pickled Peacock directly (scroll to the bottom of the page for the contact form).

History and Horror Tours in Scotland

And now for something completely different… History and Horror Tours in Scotland have tickets for their outdoor walking tours of Perth and Dunkeld and they’re on sale now. This seems to be happening throughout the Easter break, but it’s not every day so be sure to contact History and Horror Tours in Scotland for more information.

I obviously don’t want to promise too much in terms of availability so check with them first. However, if you want something that’s a bit of a change from an Easter Egg hunt it would appear that you’ve got horror tours as an option as well.

You’ll be able to find out more about the horror tours available and book a ticket by following this link.

Valentines of Crieff

Valentine’s of Crieff stocks an extensive range of high-quality gents and ladies’ clothing. This weekend they’re going to be running a special shoe clearance event. You’ll find some great discounts on a range of well-known shoe brands including Dubarry, Cheaney, and Sergio Duletti.

Here are a couple of offers taken from their Facebook post: Ladies Dubarry Tipperary £349 now £199 (38, 39 & 41), Gents Cheaney Tamar Chelsea brogue boot, was £445 now £220 (8 & 10 only). There also lots more discounts to find in store.

This isn’t particularly Easter-related, but it’s definitely worth popping in and having a look.

McCash’s Country Store

Another quick shoe-related post, this time from McCash’s. They’re currently running an in-store competition to ‘try on to win’ a pair of Ariat Deck Shoes.

Ask a staff member when you’re in to try on and you might win either a walnut or navy pair worth £100!

Social Media Tips and Tricks

This week I was going to put together a ‘How To’ section on using Meta for business.  However, I don’t want to go in-depth on something that maybe isn’t of huge interest. Meta Business is a tool that Facebook has set up for Business and Organisation page users that allows you to manage your Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram accounts in one place with multiple individuals accessing these accounts.

I don’t want to fill an episode with something that goes a little more in-depth than I’ve done before but I’m more than happy to go into it if there’s interest. If you’d like a little bit more detail on how that can all be set up, please let me know through the course of the week and I’ll include that next week’s episode.

If I don’t hear anything I’ll come up with something a little lighter for the Social Media section of next week’s episode.

Shorter Episodes

I wanted to add a quick note about the length of this week’s episode. For the past few weeks, the Perthshire Hour podcast episodes have been getting longer. Last week’s poetry special was almost fifty minutes long, and despite the fact that this is probably fine for a ‘special episode’, I am aware that the general episodes have been getting longer too.

In terms of editing and writing up the show notes, these longer episodes can be a little gruelling for me. I also wonder if a podcast episode of an hour is really what listeners want. With this in mind, I’m going to try and scale back the normal episodes to about twenty minutes or so. This means that you basically dip in, get a bit of information, and then you’re all done.

Hopefully, this shorter style episode won’t be too much of a shock, but as I say I’m trying to draw it back to that kind of original 20 to 30-minute window.

Thanks for listening (and how to get on the podcast)

Thanks as always for listening in this week. As I said at the beginning of the episode, if you would like to be part of a future episode (among other things) you can join the WhatsApp group.

Being in the group means that throughout the course of the week, you can share things and other people in businesses and other creatives that are in the WhatsApp group can get that shared out for you.

It gets a bit of free promotion for you, but you know there’s gonna be a few eyes on any events or offers or you know, anything else you’re up to. But also The WhatsApp group gives you a chance to join in with the actual Perthshire Hour event from eight o’clock till nine o’clock every Wednesday.

You can tune in on Twitter listening in to the live event, and then it’s up to you whether you want to message on Twitter using the hashtag #PerthshireHour, or if you’d like to message on WhatsApp. Whichever you find easiest to do.

I’m gonna try and keep an eye on both. For a while, I was trying to keep an eye on multiple different social media platforms but it’s not easy to do whilst recording an episode, but I can definitely handle keeping an eye on WhatsApp and Twitter.

Thanks again for listening in/ reading the show notes. Hope you enjoyed this evening’s episode, all the best, and have a good Easter weekend.

Cheers, John
